The Cosmos Experience

A legacy of excellence since 1979

Our Story

Every Great Institution Begins with a Vision

For Cosmos Schools, that vision was born on 4th June 1979, a historic day in Ghana's political history. While the nation witnessed dramatic change, one remarkable woman quietly began a different kind of revolution: the transformation of lives through quality education.

That visionary was Mrs. Grace Freda Nartey. With unwavering determination, deep compassion, and an unshakeable faith in God, she welcomed just 6 pupils into a small classroom in her garage at Lapaz.

What began as a humble initiative has grown into one of Ghana's respected private educational institutions, shaping thousands of young minds over the decades.

Humble Beginnings

From Garage Classroom to Lapaz New Market

In the early years, Mrs. Grace Freda Nartey personally went from house to house encouraging parents to allow their children to attend school. She saw children roaming the neighbourhood without educational opportunities and believed every child deserved a chance to succeed.

Parents soon recognised the genuine love, discipline, and care she gave to every learner. As trust grew, so did enrolment. The small garage classroom soon became too small, leading the school to relocate to an uncompleted building before finally settling at its present location at Lapaz New Market, Accra.

Those modest beginnings laid the foundation for what is today Cosmos Schools.

A Story of Sacrifice

Mrs. Grace Freda Nartey

Building a great school required extraordinary sacrifice. During the formative years, Mrs. Grace Freda Nartey managed Cosmos as a sole proprietorship with the unwavering support of her family. There were difficult moments when finances were scarce, yet she remained committed to her teachers and students.

She made countless personal sacrifices, including selling personal belongings to pay staff salaries and postponing the education of some of her own children until circumstances improved. Through every challenge, her faith, resilience, and commitment never wavered.

Every child deserves access to quality education.

That belief continues to define Cosmos Schools today.

More recently, Cosmos has continued this proud tradition with strong performances in both the BECE and WASSCE.
